Huiming Ma
2022 Master’s Program Scholarship Recipient
Master of Education, University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus
Graduated 2024
Huiming Ma is originally from Gansu, China, and her undergraduate study was sponsored by EGRC. During her seven years of working as an early childhood educator in Beijing she actively volunteered for EGRC. As the first Ching Tien Foundation scholarship recipient, Huiming came to Canada in 2022 to pursue her Master of Education at the University of British Columbia and graduated in August 2024.
During her studies, Huiming devoted over 300 hours of her time to volunteer work to help her local community in Kelowna, and the Ching Tien Foundation’s development. She embraced Canadian culture by making friends from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and took on two part time jobs, the first as a life coach for undergraduate students, and the second, as a research assistant. Huiming discovered rock climbing during her study and enjoyed doing yoga.
Currently, Huiming is living and working in Vancouver as a Mandarin teacher for public school students, and she continues to actively support the Ching Tien Foundation’s development.

“Studying in Canada has profoundly transformed me and my perspective of the world. I have immersed myself in a new culture, experienced the Western education system, expanded my knowledge, and learned to think independently and critically. I made friends from diverse backgrounds, and further discovered myself. On top of the scholarship provided, the support, guidance, and encouragement from Ching Tien and the Foundation have illuminated my future. Now, I am eager to pass on the values and knowledge I’ve gained to benefit others.”
Jessie Huang
2023 Master’s Program Scholarship Recipient
Education Leadership and Administration, University of Nottingham, UK.
Graduated in October 2024
Jessie Huang is from a village in Henan Province, China. Both of her parents had to work hard to send her to university. Jessie obtained her BA degree from Sias University in China’s Henan province with a major in English. During her years at Sias, she attended the World Academy for the Future of Women (WAFW) for three consecutive years. After her university graduation in 2020, Jessie worked as the Executive Assistant to WAFW’s founder, and during the pandemic she took on the role of maintaining WAFW’s operations in China.
In September of 2023, Jessie began her one-year masters’ program in Education Leadership and Administration at University of Nottingham in the UK. In October 2024 she graduated with a high merit score. While undertaking her master’s degree, Jessie pursued volunteer work in her local community, and actively supported the online activities of the Ching Tien Foundation.
At the beginning of 2025 Jessie returned to China to continue her professional development.

“Studying abroad, I was completely immersed in a diverse and inclusive environment. My classmates come from Chile, Bangladesh, India, and different African countries. My professors have stimulated my desire to discover and learn. I have to say, it was beyond my expectations in every way. Honestly, my studies in the UK were challenging. In China, it is all about listening to the professors and passing exams, but in the UK, it requires research skills, a huge amount of reading, and expressing your own ideas and opinions. There is no right or wrong, my opinion counts. In the beginning I felt I was being thrown into the ocean with very little swimming skills. Fortunately, the Ching Tien Foundation provided with me an academic advisor, Dr. Joan Shaw. With her guidance and help I felt more comfortable and confident to learn, research and write papers.”
